The upgrade begins from the moment visitors enter, with a “contemporary redesign of the iconic Jurassic World gates, illuminated with billowing flames.” From there, riders board rafts and float along a peaceful jungle river, gazing at herbivores like Stegosaurus and Parasaurolophus, and presumably doing their best Jeff Goldblum impressions. (The riders, not the dinosaurs.) This being Jurassic World, things quickly turn chaotic, with predatory Velociraptors and Dilophosauruses wreaking havoc and threatening visitors. This was the dark portion of the original ride; the press release is unclear as to whether they’ll turn the lights on. The climactic reveal of the Tyrannosaurus has been promoted to a full-on T.rex versus Indominus Rex battle, which takes place just before the rafts plunge down an 84-foot waterfall.

Along with the renovated ride, the park is introducing a “Raptor Encounter” attraction where guests can come face-to-face with Chris Pratt’s Velociraptor bestie Blue, and a “Dino Play” area where kids can excavate giant fossils.
