Fox Searchlight announced on Tuesday that it’s acquired worldwide rights to Chloé Zhao’s film “Nomadland.”The film, which is Zhao’s third feature film following “The Rider” and “Songs My Brother Taught Me,” stars Frances McDormand in her first role since winning the best actress Oscar for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”“Nomadland” is a road movie following Fern (McDormand), a woman in her sixties, who after losing everything in the Great Recession embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad.
